destiny-matchmakingWhile there are video game conferences held every year, with E3 probably being the biggest of them, sometimes developers prefer to hold their own events. A good example would be Blizzard and BlizzCon which has been an annual tradition for many years now. Now it looks like Bungie might have something similar planned.

It has been recently discovered that the folks at Bungie have filed for a trademark for “DestinyCon”. It falls under classification 41 and reads, “fan conventions… in connection with the game ‘Destiny.’” We suppose the name itself was a bit of a giveaway, but we guess it helps that the description more or less cements it.

It is unclear as to when Bungie plans on kicking off their event or if it is even official to begin with. That being said, there is already an unofficial Destiny convention that has been held over the past few years. Dubbed GuardianCon, this is the effort of popular streamers ProfessorBroman and King Gothalion.

According to a tweet by ProfessorBroman, he revealed that GuardianCon is expected to continue despite the trademark. He also speculates that the trademark filing was done to protect their IP to prevent future confusion regarding fan-organized events. We suppose that seems like a plausible scenario so we’ll just have to wait and see if Bungie will announce anything moving forwards.
