hugo-barra-fb-vrSeveral days ago, Hugo Barra who was one of Xiaomi’s most recognizable faces announced that he would be leaving the company. Barra said that he would be moving back to Silicon Valley but it was unclear as to what his next move might be. So far his positions have been phone related as he moved from being one of Google’s Android execs to being Xiaomi’s VP of International.

However it looks like his next move won’t be in the mobile field, but rather the virtual reality one as Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Barra will be joining the social network’s VR team where he will helping lead their VR efforts, and according to Zuckerberg, this will also include the Oculus team.

In his post on Facebook, Zuckerberg said, “Hugo shares my belief that virtual and augmented reality will be the next major computing platform. They’ll enable us to experience completely new things and be more creative than ever before. Hugo is going to help build that future, and I’m looking forward to having him on our team.”

We have to say that this does come as a surprise as there are some who probably did not expect to hear from Barra anytime soon regarding his future ventures, but either way it does sound pretty exciting and it will be interesting to see what he will be able to achieve at his time at Facebook.
