It has been rumored time and again that a couple of companies are working on foldable smartphones. Not one has been officially announced or even confirmed up till now but the rumor mill still firmly believes that both Samsung and LG will be coming out with their foldable smartphones later this year. Word on the street is that LG is going to release its foldable smartphone in the final quarter of this year.

It’s believed that LG is going to release its foldable smartphone soon after Samsung brings its own device to the market. LG is reportedly going to manufacture more than 100,000 units of the foldable smartphone. It’s even claimed that LG started working on this device around three years ago and that its technology is better than Samsung’s.

LG hasn’t confirmed any of this right now so it’s unclear whether or not it’s really going to release a foldable smartphone later this year. Rumor has it that LG could supply its foldable displays to other manufacturers like Huawei, Apple, and Google as well.

On the other hand, Samsung has long rumored to be developing foldable smartphones as well. Recent reports out of South Korea have us believe that the company is finally going to come out with a similar device in the third quarter of this year.
