keurig kold
Keurig is best known for its single-use pod-based coffee machines but it did try its hand at making a machine that could make cold drinks at home. The Keurig Kold soda machine used the same pod-based concept as the company’s coffee machines but instead made drinks like Coke, Sprint, Ginger Ale, etc from pods. It failed to take off and the Keurig Kold was discontinued but the company’s next cold beverage machine just might seeing as how it’ll make booze at the press of a button.

Keurig has confirmed that it’s working with Anheuser-Busch on an “in-home alcohol drink system,” that’s fancy PR speak for a machine that makes booze at home. This machine is likely going to use some of the technology that Keurig created for the Kold.

Initially, the new drink system might just be limited to making beer but it could eventually start making various kinds of drinks. The two companies would like to see the machine offer “spirits, cocktails, and mixers” aside from a variety of other drink options.

No technical details about the new machine are available right now as Keurig and Anheuser-Busch are just starting out right now on this project. It’s not known how much the machine will cost and when it’s going to arrive.

One of the reasons why the Kold failed to take off was that it was an expensive option for something that you can normally buy in a large quantity from the supermarket often at a discount. Keurig will likely look at the reasons why the Kold failed and adapt to ensure its booze machine doesn’t meet the same fate.
