One of Apple’s greatest innovations was the MagSafe connector for its laptops, where thanks to a magnetic connection, it only takes a light tug to disconnect the charging cable from the laptop, which in turn prevents laptops from crashing to the floor after tripping over the cable. Unfortunately Apple decided to kill it with the launch of the new MacBook Pros.

However thanks to a recently discovered patent, it seems that Apple could be considering bringing the MagSafe connector back but in a slightly different form. According to the patent and as you can see in the diagram above, it shows how Apple is envisioning the MagSafe connector as an external accessory for the laptop.

However interestingly enough the diagram shows an older charging cable, which suggests that maybe this could be aimed at MacBook owners who want to use the old MagSafe charging cables with their newer MacBook laptops. However we suppose it is possible that Apple could create an adapter for the current USB-C cables as well.

That being said with this being a patent, it’s hard to say if it will ever be made a reality. However in the meantime, there are quite a few alternatives out there that offer up MagSafe-like connectivity, so you could always check those out in the meantime.
