Given how connected we are these days, it is understandable that sometimes it’s harder than we like to just disconnect ourselves and focus on things like reading, writing, or just enjoying each other’s company without glancing at our phones or computers. If you use Google WiFi, then you will be pleased to learn disconnecting yourself has become easier.

Google has announced that they are introducing a new feature to Google WiFi in the form of Scheduled Pause. What this feature does is that it allows users to schedule when they want their internet to be paused. For example you can schedule it so that the internet has been paused during dinner, or family time, or school nights, homework time, and so on.

According to Google WiFi’s product manager Edith Chao, “The idea behind Scheduled Pause started a year ago. While exploring how to best create tools for families, I noticed that I was having trouble falling asleep. I’d check emails and surf the web late into the night.”

“Experimenting with options, I started using a timer on my computer to turn the internet off at 11 p.m. The first night was a shock, but after a few nights I was ready to shut down earlier. And I was more refreshed and rejuvenated in the morning. As I started talking to more people, in and outside of Google, I found that screen time was a common challenge for parents—from getting kids to put down their favorite game to struggling to have dinner without eyes glued to devices.”
