Apple’s iPad shipments have been constantly declining for the past few quarters but that’s not because there’s something wrong with the company’s tablets and customers are opting for other options. The tablet market as a whole has been declining for the past few quarters so Apple is just being hit by the market sentiment. Nevertheless, despite declining sales, Apple still remains the top tablet manufacturer in the world.

Apple’s quarterly result revealed that it sold 8.92 million iPads in the previous quarter opposed to 10.2 million iPads during the same period the year before.

TrendForce’s latest report shows that Apple remains the leader as far as the top five tablet brands are concerned even though tablet sales have dropped 9.3 percent year-over-year.

It even predicts that the current quarter could end up returning growth to the iPad as Apple has recently launched a new 9.7 inch iPad and is expected to launch another high-end iPad in the near future. TrendForce estimates that iPad shipments in the second quarter could climb by 15 percent compared to the first quarter’s shipments.

Apple needs to sell more than the 9.9 million iPads it did in the previous year to end 2017 in the green for its tablets. Whether or not it’s able to do that remains to be seen and also relies entirely upon how its tablets perform in the market.
