Square chief Jack Dorsey teased the company’s debit card back in April. It revealed that the company had been working on the idea of bringing a physical payment card in the mix which would allow users to use Square’s service in a more conventional manner. The company has now confirmed that Square debit card sign up invitations are now being sent to customers.

The Square Debit card sign up program doesn’t appear to have been launched for all Square Cash users. The company is sending out invitations on its own for some users so it could be a while before this goes live for everyone.

The confirmation came from Square after one customer tweeted that he had received an invitation from Square to order a debit card. A spokesperson for the company later confirmed to Re/code that it really is sending out these invites.

Square debit cards are different from your normal bank card. They’re not going to be linked to your bank account. The card’s balance will be the money you have in your Square Cash app.

Anyone who wants a card now will have to wait if they’ve not already received an invite from Square. It’s unclear when Square is going to open this up for everyone, the company itself hasn’t confirmed this as yet.
