With the iPhone X, it marks the first time that Apple has used OLEDs for their iPhones. It is expected to usher in a new era of iPhones that use the display technology, but if you were thinking that 2018 would be filled with OLED iPhones, think again because some analysts believe that Apple could continue to use LCDs for some models in 2018.According to a report from Barron’s, it quotes Rosenblatt Securities’ Jun Zhang who claims that in a bid to help lower the price of the iPhones next year, Apple could use LCDs for some of the iPhones. “We believe Apple might bring down the cost of an iPhone X by using an LCD screen next year making the iPhone 8S a more differentiated product from the iPhone 7 and 8.”
However despite the use of LCDs, Zhang expects that Apple could bring the iPhone X features into 2018’s iPhones, with the main difference being their display technology. As it stands the iPhone X is priced at $999 which is the price of the base 64GB model, with the price going up if customers opt for the 256GB model.
Zhang’s prediction is actually one that we’ve heard before back in a report from October, but Zhang’s report does provide additional insights. Whether or not they’ll pan out remains to be seen, so take it with a grain of salt for now.
