The Grand Theft Auto franchise has come a very, very long way, from back in the day of the original top down, 2D game with somewhat terrible graphics, to Grand Theft Auto V which features an open world concept and pretty amazing graphics to boot. This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that GTA V might be the best-selling video game of all time.

This is according to the latest financials of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, who revealed that GTA V has managed to ship a whopping 85 million copies worldwide to date, making it the best-selling video game of all time in the United States. Prior to this, Wii Sports held that title with 82.83 million copies sold, but with 85 million copies, it looks like GTA V has managed to steal that crown.

GTA V’s success has been pretty much right from the start where the game reportedly managed to earn its developers and publishers a staggering $1 billion within the first 3 days. Rockstar has also been adding new content to the game’s GTA Online mode every now and then, keeping the game relevant and players interested.

Given the success of GTA Online, we imagine that Rockstar will want to milk it for all its worth, so it is unclear if a GTA VI could be in development, although there have been rumors that it is.
