While Snapchat might have started out as an app that allowed users to send timed messages to each other, the platform has grown into its own where many brands have started to use the platform to debut original shows and content. CNN was one of those who took advantage of Snapchat’s popularity to launch a show called “The Update”.

Unfortunately it looks like CNN’s plans for the show are short-lived as the media outlet has since cancelled the show. The show made its debut in August which means that it has been in existence for less than half a year. CNN has yet to reveal the reasons behind the cancellation, but it is said to have to do with money.

The Wall Street Journal who first broke the story quotes people familiar with the matter as claiming that “there wasn’t a clear path to make money”.  It is rather unfortunate given that CNN was one of Snapchat’s launch partners for the Discover feature.

In a joint statement provided by both companies, “Snap and CNN have built a great partnership over the years and our teams have enormous admiration for each other. We plan to keep working together and mutually decided to hit pause as we explore the best opportunities for doing that.”
