Uber is best known for its ride-hailing service. If you need a ride, just open the Uber app and select where you want to go. An Uber driver nearby will accept your ride and take you where you want to go. However, Uber is also running a food-delivery business in several markets across the globe. It turns out, the food business has actually overtaken the ride-hailing business in some markets.

Uber calls its food-delivery business UberEats. It was launched in Los Angeles back in 2013 and has since been expanded to many markets across the globe.

Toussaint Wattinne, an UberEats general manager, confirmed to Business Insider that UberEats is bigger than the company’s transportation business in 19 European cities. Wattinne claims that UberEats is one of the fastest-growing food-delivery services in the world.

“When we attribute our growth and try to improve our service, the first thing that plays a big role is the restaurant selection we’re able to provide,” Wattinne said.

UberEats is now live in more than 30 countries with the United Kingdom being one of its largest geographical markets. It has partnered with over 8,000 restaurants in the UK alone.

The food-delivery service is generating more revenue than the transportation business in major European business cities like Milan, Madrid, and Grenoble. No wonder that UberEats is reportedly on track to bring in $3 billion in sales by the end of this year.

The company hasn’t officially revealed any information about the financials of this service. It hasn’t confirmed how many meals UberEats delivers per day and what the average order size is as well.
