Late last year, Amazon announced Amazon Key which is a new feature for Prime members in which Amazon will allow delivery people to make deliveries right inside your home. This means that there will no longer be issues of rescheduling deliveries because you’re not home, or people stealing deliveries off your doorstep.

Now it looks like Amazon is furthering their Key program by acquiring smart doorbell maker Ring. Ring has confirmed the acquisition in a statement made to CNBC which reads, “We’ll be able to achieve even more by partnering with an inventive, customer-centric company like Amazon. We look forward to being a part of the Amazon team as we work toward our vision for safer neighborhoods.”

Amazon has also confirmed it in a statement which reads, “Ring’s home security products and services have delighted customers since day one. We’re excited to work with this talented team.” It is unclear as to what Amazon plans to do with Ring, but for now it seems that Amazon could allow Ring to continue to operate independently.

However we wouldn’t be surprised if in the future it could find itself further integrated into Amazon’s ecosystem, such as being used together with the Echo or Alexa, or used in the Amazon Key program.
