Prior to MWC 2018, there were rumors that HMD Global would have something to announce which many speculated could be the Nokia 9, but that did not happen. Instead HMD announced the Nokia 8 Sirocco, but what does that mean for the Nokia 9? Was it only a rumor? Turns out that there is a chance it could still be launched.

According to a report from NPU, it seems that the Nokia 9 is still in the cards, and not only that, it would seem that the Nokia 8 Pro could also be announced. In terms of specs and features, the Nokia 8 Pro is rumored to be a high-end phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and could be launched in August 2018.

As for the Nokia 9, the specs are unknown but chances are the Snapdragon 845 will probably be used as well. However the focus is rumored to be on the camera, and also its display where it will come with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Assuming this is true, we have to wonder about HMD Global’s plans to only ship Android One handsets moving forwards.

Android One is mostly seen as a variant of Android designed for lower-end handsets meant for emerging markets, however with the rumored specs of the Nokia 9 and 8 Pro, we’re not sure if Android One would be such a good fit. In any case take it with a grain of salt, but hopefully we’ll have more details soon.
