YouTube Kids is meant to be a place safe for children where they can watch and find videos that are age appropriate. However in recent times it has been proven that despite YouTube’s efforts, weird and disturbing content has managed to make it past their filters. However the good news for parents is that YouTube is going to try and approach this from a different angle.

Right now for the most part YouTube Kids relies on filters and algorithms to determine what videos may or may not be appropriate for kids. However a report from BuzzFeed News has revealed that the company might soon start to favor the old school approach, which is handpicking content that has been whitelisted.

Basically instead of relying on computers and algorithms to filter videos, YouTube might soon manually curate videos and will only display videos from channels that have been previously approved. However this doesn’t mean that YouTube will completely do away with algorithms, but instead this manually curated version will exist side-by-side as an option parents can choose to enable.

The upside is that if the team curating the videos does their job, it should cut down on the disturbing content, although the downside is that because computers and filters work faster, your selection of videos might be less at the start.
