Some of you will be well aware that Google has already detailed Android P and has even launched a public beta program while many compatible high-end devices have yet to receive their Oreo update. The carrier-locked LG G6 is one of those devices and finally, there’s some respite for those who have been waiting for this update on Verizon. The country’s largest mobile carrier has now started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the LG G6.

Verizon isn’t really known for its speed when it comes to sending out firmware updates but it appears to be the first major carrier in the United States that has now released Oreo for the LG G6. That is an achievement in its own right.

It’s a substantial update, weighing in at 1.9GB, which isn’t surprising given that it is a major Android platform update. Verizon is rolling out build number VS98820a for the LG G6 and aside from bringing all of the goodies that you expect to find in Oreo, it also comes with the April security patch.

Verizon has started rolling out the LG G6 Oreo update over-the-air so it’s going to take some time for the update to go live for all users. They can rest assured, though, as it’s only a matter of time before their device gets it.
