Facebook-owned WhatsApp is making a minor yet very useful change today. The app has been updated so that it can now play Facebook and Instagram videos itself without having to make the user jump between the separate app. It’s about time that WhatsApp added support for in-app playback for Facebook and Instagram videos, considering the fact that all three services are part of the same company.

The WhatsApp app has been updated today so that it can now play Facebook and Instagram videos inside the app itself. When users receive a Facebook or Instagram video from one of their contacts on WhatsApp, they will be able to watch the said video inside the app and won’t need to move away from the conversation thread to go and watch the video in the separate apps.

It’s about time that this functionality was added to the app, particularly because WhatsApp has been able to play videos from YouTube within the conversation already. One would have expected that of all the services, WhatsApp would first support this for Facebook and Instagram.

This support is part of the update that WhatsApp has rolled out today for iOS users which includes the ability to give group admins the capability to change the subject, description, and icon of an existing thread. These changes will be rolled out for the Android version of the app in the near future.
