Bungie has been working on a new project for quite some time now and the developer has now confirmed that this $100 million undertaking isn’t a new Destiny title. It couldn’t be, given the fact that the original Destiny game had a $500 million budget. Bungie’s latest project is actually the result of a partnership with Chinese publisher NetEase that’s investing $100 million into the studio.

Bungie officially confirmed on its website that it has entered into a new partnershpi with NetEase which will help it “explore new directions,” adding that “They’ll help us support separate teams inside Bungie to bring our newest ambitions to life.”

The studio later confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that NetEase has invested $100 million into the studio and will back that up with its industry expertise to help Bungie develop new worlds, and invite more players to join in there.

Bungie also reiterated that this isn’t going to impact Destiny fans and that Destiny is an experience “that will grow for many years to come.” It will continue to work with Activision on Destiny and promises that it has “exciting plans for the future of the Destiny franchise, and you’ll learn more about the next steps we’ll take together in the weeks to come.”
