Last year Google announced that Uber would be integrated within Google Maps. This meant that while searching for location of places, users would also be able to hail an Uber within Google Maps itself. This meant less steps for users which could also help drive the number Uber rides.

However as spotted by Android Police, it appears that users will no longer be able to hail an Uber from Google Maps. Google has confirmed this in a support page where they write, “You can no longer book Uber rides directly in Google Maps. But you can still look up the route in the Maps app and then request the ride from the Uber app.”

Google does not provide any reason why Uber integration was pulled, but Android Police notes that Uber’s integration was actually pulled from Google Maps on iOS back in the summer of 2017, but for some reason it continued to remain available within the Android version of Google Maps, at least until now.

However Google Maps will still allow users to book an Uber through the Uber app, so you will have to install the Uber app on your phone if you are still planning to try an book an Uber while using Google Maps. Sure, it’s a couple of extra steps but it’s not exactly a deal breaker.
