While Kingdom Hearts 3 was no doubt the focus on Square Enix’s E3 2018 presentation, a notable absence at Square Enix’s presentation was the Final Fantasy VII remake. The game was announced a couple of years ago but fast forward to today, Square Enix has revealed little to nothing about the game and their progress.

We’re sure many gamers are wondering about the state of the game and if they might even see it at all, but you can rest assured that the game is in development. This was confirmed by Tetsuya Nomura who is also the director of Kingdom Hearts 3, where he reassured fans that the game is in development and not in the concept stages.

Speaking to The Verge, Nomura was quoted as saying, “We are developing [Final Fantasy VII] in parallel, and it’s not just in the early concept stages. We are actually in development.” He adds, “So right now, it’s like I’ve been putting in 100 percent into Kingdom Hearts, 100 percent into Final Fantasy VII, 100 percent into Kingdom Hearts… just going back and forth. It’s just like [working on] two titles is just going to be one [after Kingdom Hearts III’s launch]. That’s pretty much how I see it.”

As it stands Kingdom Hearts 3 will be released in January 2019 so hopefully after that development on the Final Fantasy VII remake will speed up.
