When you think of infotainment systems such as Apple’s CarPlay or Google’s Android Auto, immediately one of the things that comes to mind would be navigational apps such as Apple Maps, Google Maps, or Waze. To be fair, Waze has been available on Android Auto since last year, but the downside was the it required users to own an Android Auto head unit.

This is something that understandably not everyone might want to invest in, and the good news is that if you do use Waze but don’t have an Android Auto head unit, that has changed as Waze will now work on Android Auto on your smartphone. For those unfamiliar, Android Auto is available on Google’s Android smartphones which uses your smartphone as a display instead of requiring a dedicated head unit which will cost extra.

With Waze now being available on Android Auto on smartphones, all it requires is users downloading the Waze app on their phone and they’ll be good to go. In terms of features, admittedly there isn’t much difference compared to the regular version of Waze for smartphones and will be different from the version on an Android Auto head unit. However if you absolutely have to use Waze then we guess the functionality is finally here.
