Notifications are a great way to let us know we have messages, emails, and so on that we need to deal with. However we can’t always attend to them all the time, and for WhatsApp users on Android it looks like as handy new feature has started to roll out for some users in the form of a “Mark as read” button.

According to Android Police, it appears that they have been receiving reports that this is a new feature that WhatsApp is rolling out to some users. By “some users” we mean that not everyone can see the feature yet, so if you don’t see it not to worry as it could either be in testing or it could be a staged rollout.

Basically what it does is that it not only dismisses the notification, but it marks it as read (double blue ticks will be shown to the other user if both parties have enabled it). Like we said this will come in handy if you’re trying to clear notifications of messages that you don’t want to reply to or need to.

WhatsApp won’t be the first developer to introduce the feature as Telegram had previously rolled out a similar feature, but if you’re more of a WhatsApp user then we reckon that this feature should come in handy.
