#IFA18 – Yesterday Netgear announced a rather interesting product with the Orbi Voice. What made this interesting was the fact that this was not only a mesh router system, but it also combined a speaker from Harman Kardon that also supported Amazon’s Alexa digital assistant platform, making it an all-in-one device.

Turns out that this idea is catching on very quickly because at IFA 2018, Huawei has also announced a similar product in the form of the Huawei AI Cube.

This is a smart speaker that also features support for Alexa, and also has the ability to act as a router with support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels, as well as 4G LTE. All it needs to support the latter is for users to purchase a data plan from their carrier, plug in the SIM Card, and they’ll be good to go.

Huawei has also touted the speaker’s capabilities where it features a 400ml sound cavity and an aluminum diaphragm that is supposed to produce “crystal clear” midrange and highs, along with a rounded bass. It also uses Huawei’s own audio technology, Huawei Histen which introduces virtual bass, linear phase equalizer, adaptive gain control, far-field voice recognition, and more.
Huawei has yet to set a price for the AI Cube or when it is expected to be available.
