In this day and age, we’re starting to see companies start to roll out features aimed at promoting digital wellbeing, which is basically companies trying to get users to stop spending extended hours in front of their computers or their phones. Heck, a recent survey found that even teens are starting to get worried about how much time they spend on their phones.To that end, it appears that Netflix no longer wants to be associated with binge-watching, something that was more or less synonymous with the company thanks to the fact that seasons are typically released all at once, and the ability to autoplay episode after episode, and season after season.
This is according to actor Guy Pearce where during an interview on the Empire Film Podcast (via Engadget), Pearce was asked if his new series, The Innocents, had any binge-worthy potential. Pearce then replied by saying, “I don’t think Netflix likes the term ‘binge’.” He also revealed that the show’s cast members were “strictly sort of instructed beforehand not to talk about ‘binge-watching’ during interviews.”
It is unclear why Netflix might want to distance itself away from that term, but like we said, with more companies focusing on digital wellbeing, we wouldn’t be surprised if Netflix no longer wanted to be associated with creating a generation of couch potatoes.
