Skype’s Encrypted Private Conversations Feature Is Now Available

At the start of the year, Microsoft announced that they will be rolling out a new feature for Skype in the form of end-to-end encryption with the Private Conversations feature. If this sounded like a feature you were looking forward to, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the feature is now live and available across multiple platforms.

This is according to a report from MSPU who discovered and reported the feature’s availability where it can be accessed by users on iOS, Android, Linux, Mac, and Windows. For those who are unfamiliar with this feature, basically it creates a private chat between you and another person. That chat will be fully encrypted and content will be hidden in the chat list as well as notifications.

If you’re someone who truly values their privacy or if you’re having a secret conversation you don’t want to be revealed in the notifications, then this is it. That being said, some are criticizing how Microsoft has taken so long to introduce features that other apps have had for a long time, especially when you consider how long Skype has been around for.

For example it was only recently that Skype started to test chat archiving, a feature that many apps such as WhatsApp have long introduced to its platform. In any case we suppose better late than never.
