Last week Apple announced the iPhone Xs, Xs Max, and the iPhone XR. These are Apple’s latest iPhones and as usual, Apple tried to keep things as layman-friendly during their announcement of the devices, which meant that those who wanted to know more technical details would have to find out on their own via Apple’s website.

However if there was one feature that Apple did not touch on, it would be how much RAM the new iPhones are packing. The previous generation came with 3GB of RAM and so some are rightfully wondering if the newer models will be packing just as much RAM, or could we be getting an upgrade? Thankfully it is the latter because according to recently spotted Geekbench scores, it seems that Apple’s 2018 iPhones are packing 4GB of RAM, save for the iPhone XR which seems to be retaining the 3GB of RAM configuration.

RAM seems to be something that Apple isn’t too eager to upgrade. Many have criticized and made fun of Apple’s iPhones over its “lack” of RAM. It has been shown that when compared side-by-side with other Android phones with twice as much RAM is that while the iPhones are faster at launching apps, keeping them open in the background is a struggle which is where the iPhones typically end up losing in such comparisons.

At the same time given that Apple designs their own hardware and software, they do have the luxury of designing around what they need. We’re sure that many would love to see iPhones packing 6GB or 8GB of RAM, but for now it looks like 4GB is as high as Apple will go.
