OnePlus has quickly made a name for itself over the past few years. The company makes competitively priced devices that push above their weight in terms of specs and features. It’s now going to apply this strategy to another product altogether. OnePlus has confirmed that it’s making a smart TV.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed on the company’s official forums that “we are building a new product of OnePlus’ premium flagship design, image quality and audio experience to more seamlessly connect the home.”

He added that the team has learned a lot about hardware, software, design, and product development over the past five years. Lau believes that this has paved an excellent foundation for the team to use all of that knowledge to develop the OnePlus TV experience.

This will be the company’s foray outside the smartphone market. It did consider launching a smartwatch once but decided against it. Lau was slim on the details about the company’s first smart TV but did say that “We want to bring the home environment to the next level of intelligent connectivity.” That is the idea behind the OnePlus TV.

It is as yet unknown if the company is looking to launch the smart TV later this year. There’s no word as yet on how much it’s going to cost and in which markets it will be available.
