The Razer Phone was the first smartphone from the company best known for its gaming products and while it hasn’t said how well the device has performed in the market, it has subtly revealed that the successor to the device is now in development. The company has confirmed that the Razer Phone 2 is in development but hasn’t revealed a lot of details about it as yet.

The confirmation was buried in the company’s earnings release for the first half of this year. It mentioned that Razer is focusing its resources “into the development of the second generation Razer Phone.” That’s as direct a confirmation as one can get.

The company hasn’t mentioned when we can expect the new Razer Phone to arrive. If the rumor mill is to be believed, the handset may be out towards the end of this year. Given that the original Razer Phone was a smartphone meant for gamers, one can be reasonably sure that its successor will stick with the script.

Razer did mention in its earnings release that the first Razer Phone which was released in a “limited run” received “very positive reviews internationally.” It didn’t say how many units of the device were shipped, though.
