The iPhone X was Apple’s first smartphone with an OLED display. Samsung Display, a subsidiary of its biggest rival, is one of the few companies with the quality and scale of OLED panel production to meet demand from a customer like Apple which is why it was the sole supplier of the iPhone X’s OLED panel. However, it appears that Samsung may not be the sole supplier for Apple’s latest iPhones.

A report out of South Korea claims that LG Display has been picked up as a second supplier of OLED panels for Apple’s iPhones. It was reported multiple times over the past few months that LG Display could also join the company’s supply chain for OLED panels.

The report mentions that LG Display was approved as a supplier after its flexible OLED panels passed a series of Apple’s quality test. While LG hasn’t confirmed or denied this as yet, a deal with a company like Apple would certainly go a long way in enabling LG Display to establish a name for itself in the OLED display market that has largely been dominated by Samsung Display.

It’s unclear how the orders have been split between the two companies but it’s believed that Samsung Display may still be accounting for the bulk of OLED panel supplies to Apple.
