Thanks to a photo uploaded the other day by Xiaomi’s President, the Mi Mix 3 was officially revealed as far as the design was concerned. It showed a pop out camera feature similar to what we’ve seen in the past from the likes of Oppo and Vivo. However now we might have another thing to look forward to.

In a new photo uploaded by the company’s CEO Lin Bin onto Weibo, it shows the Mi Mix 3 again. While we have seen the phone in the previous report, what makes this particular photo interesting is that it shows the phone in front of a 5G testing station, and also in the screen of the phone itself, it shows that the phone appears to be connected to a 5G network.

Now 5G is expected to be the next standard in mobile internet connectivity and that many carriers have plans to roll it out in the near, with some planning for certain markets to go live this year. However there is a lack of 5G phones in the market at the moment, and Xiaomi’s latest photo suggests that they could be one of the firsts to the market.

That being said before you get too excited, Xiaomi’s phones have largely been sold in China and other parts of Asia, so don’t expect to see it make its way stateside anytime soon, but hopefully this will be the spark that the mobile industry needs to start churning out more 5G phones in the near future.
