With Game of Thrones the TV series officially coming to an end in 2019, this will no doubt be a huge loss for HBO in which it’s safe to say that many are subscribed to the company’s service for the show. This means that they’ll need to find something to take its place, which was revealed and confirmed earlier this year to be a prequel based on the series.

Now according to a report from IGN, it seems that the series has cast its lead character in the form of actress Naomi Watts, who will be playing “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret”. Details about the prequel are still shrouded in mystery, but it is expected to take place in the Age of Heroes and will be based on a period known as The Long Night.

The official logline for the series reads, “Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

The idea of a Game of Thrones prequel was mentioned a couple of years ago. The series’ author George R.R. Martin had also previously stated that he had enough material to create a prequel, where he had also stated that there were at least five different prequels that were in development (obviously not all will be chosen).
