There are plenty of video streaming services that you can subscribe on. Amazon has a service called Channels which lets users sign up for these third-party services through the online retail giant. It appears that Walmart, one of Amazon’s biggest rivals in the retail space, is thinking about doing something similar. The company is reportedly launching its own marketplace for third-party video streaming services.

Bloomberg reports that Walmart is planning to create an online store which will sell third-party video streaming service subscriptions. The idea is to enable users of Walmart’s Vudu video service to subscribe to additional services such as Starz or HBW Now.

The report does mention, citing people who are aware of the discussions, that they’re still in an exploratory phase and that the company’s plans could change down the line. This would mean that it won’t launch this marketplace for third-party streaming services.

This isn’t where Walmart’s video streaming ambitions might end. Recent reports suggest that it has considered the possibility of developing a new streaming service similar to Netflix. Its Netflix competitor might be launched under the Vudu brand for $8 per month. It’s unclear if Walmart is still interested in doing that but it’s clearly willing to invest more in the digital entertainment space.
