In a post on its website, Dell has disclosed that earlier this month, they detected hacking attempts that tried to breach its network to gain access to customer information. Note that we say “attempts” because according to Dell, the hackers weren’t successful, or at least not to their knowledge.
According to Dell, “Though it is possible some of this information was removed from Dell’s network, our investigations found no conclusive evidence that any was extracted. Additionally, Dell cybersecurity measures are in place to limit the impact of any potential exposure. These include the hashing of our customers’ passwords and a mandatory Dell.com password reset.”
The company also notes that customer payment information such as credit card details were not targeted. They also stated that upon detection of the hack, they quickly implemented countermeasures and are working with an independent investigation firm and law enforcement on the matter. If you do receive a notification informing you that your password has been reset, this could be the reason why.
