If you thought that companies such as Huawei and Samsung were pushing the limits with smartphones with a triple and quad camera setup, think again. Several months ago we heard rumors that HMD Global might have a new Nokia smartphone in the works with a penta-lens design, and now more evidence has surfaced that such a device exists.

In a post on AndroidPure, it appear that they have managed to get their hands on images that are allegedly the case for the Nokia 9, HMD’s upcoming smartphone that will sport a penta-lens design. If this looks familiar, it is because the case’s design looks like the previous leak. Either the case design is based on the leak, or this was created independent of the leak which does lend credence to the rumors.

We’re not sure how HMD will market the Nokia 9 and its five camera lenses and what it can achieve that other phones can’t, so we’ll have to wait and see. As for what the lenses do, according to the rumors, the Nokia 9 will feature a telephoto lens, a wide-angle lens, and one depth-sensor lens, and it is unclear what the other two will do.

There will also be a LED flash and an additional cutout that we’re still not sure what is meant for just yet. CES 2019 is coming up soon and that is a possible venue for HMD to make an announcement, if not MWC 2019 seems like a pretty safe bet, so until we get the official info, take it with a grain of salt for now.
