Earlier OnePlus CEO made an appearance at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit where he announced that they would be one of the first to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 platform, in which one of the features of the platform is the support for 5G. The company had previously confirmed plans for a 5G smartphone, but now more details are being revealed.

Speaking to Engadget in an interview, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau stated that they were trying their best to try and keep its 5G smartphone under $1,000. Previously there have been articles that stated that adopting a 5G smartphone in 2019 might not be the best idea, as given that this is still relatively new technology, it also means that it could be pricey.

Whether or not OnePlus is able to keep its costs down is unclear, but the company’s smartphones have been increasing in price of the years. What started off as a value-for-money flagship smartphone has since increased in price where it is now on par with flagship prices from maybe 2-3 years ago.

Thankfully OnePlus has yet to break the $1,000 mark, and hopefully they will be able to maintain it in 2019. However this also means that the phone could still be pricey for a OnePlus handset, where for all we know, it might end up costing $750 or even $850. Either way we’ll have to wait and see.
