Apple Hit With Lawsuit Over Group FaceTime Bug

Recently there was a report about a Group FaceTime bug that allowed users to listen in on others without their knowledge. Apple has since temporarily disabled the feature, but unfortunately that is not enough because in a report from Bloomberg, Apple has since been hit with its first lawsuit over the issue.

The lawsuit was filed by lawyer Larry Williams II who claims that his iPhone had allowed an unknown person listen in on a sworn testimony during a deposition. Williams is now seeking unspecified punitive damages with claims of “negligence, product liability, misrepresentation and warranty breach”.

Apple has yet to respond to the lawsuit, and we doubt that this will be the only one either. To make things worse, it was recently reported that Apple had actually been alerted to this bug a week or so earlier. The bug was said to have been discovered by a teen trying to setup a group call for Fortnite.

The teen and his mom then tried reaching out to Apple several times, but ultimately felt that they were not taken seriously. It was only until this bug started to make its rounds on social media did Apple actually get around to doing something about it. No word on when the fix is expected to roll out, but in the meantime you can always go ahead and disable FaceTime just to be safe.
