DJI has launched a new controller for its drones that costs $650 and features a built-in display. The controller doesn’t support all of its drones as it’s expensive than a couple of them in the first place. It’s only meant for use with the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro drones. Think of it as an expensive R/C controller that has a 5.5 inch 1080p display which runs Android.

What this means is that drone owners only require this controller to take their Mavic 2 to the sky. They can fly it without requiring a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet. Footage from the drone’s camera is streamed to the integrated display in full HD resolution.

Some users might not mind the rather expensive price tag of this accessory over the convenience that it provides. With this controller, they can quickly start flying their drones, since they don’t have to connect a mobile device to a controller first. It also takes the hassle out of ensuring that multiple devices are not only connected but also have adequate charge.

The $650 controller reportedly has support for DJI Pilot, DJI Go 4, and other third-party apps. The battery life is said to be good for 2.5 hours. DJI is selling the controller on its own starting today and it will be sold in bundles with the Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro down the line as well.
