We have been hearing rumors that Apple could be working on a new Smart Battery Case for their new iPhones. There have been sightings of icons that allegedly depict the case, and now a post on Reddit by user u/Rationalspace787 has added fuel to that fire with more evidence that such a case could be in the works.

According to the post, “So I was recently given an iPhone 7 Battery case which was pretty banged up, so i decided to cut it up in an attempt to make an iPhone X version. I cut off all the sides & dremeled out the bottom so the X would fit in it. The phone does work with the case once I got it to fit, and I made an interesting discovery. iOS 12.1.2 already has the icon for an iPhone X style battery case.”

The design of the icon seems to be similar to that of the previous icons we’ve seen in the past, so at the very least the rumors are consistent with each other. One of the main changes in the design of the icon is that the chin of the previous case’s design has been removed and seems to “fit” the current iPhones.

At this point in time we’re not sure if this case will be available in three different sizes to accommodate the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR, but given how many sightings we’ve seen, hopefully we’ll be getting an official announcement soon.
