Huawei is in a bit of a bind at the moment. The US government and its allies are taking steps to keep Huawei out of their communications infrastructure, and are urging others to follow suit. This would mean a pretty big loss of business for the company, but speaking to the BBC, Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei believes that they cannot be crushed.

According to Ren, “There’s no way the US can crush us. The world cannot leave us because we are more advanced. Even if they persuade more countries not to use us temporarily, we can always scale things down a bit.” However despite that optimistic outlook, Ren acknowledges that these sanctions could have a significant impact on the company.

The US government is currently engaged in a trade war with China. It is unclear if the US is simply using Huawei as a pawn in their trade war with China, or if they have legitimate concerns. According to intelligence agencies, they believe that Chinese companies such as Huawei pose a security threat as they might be spying on them on behalf of the Chinese government.

For the most part, Huawei has insisted that these allegations aren’t true. Ren has also come forward in the past insisting that his company would never do that. According to Ren, “Our company will never undertake any spying activities. If we have any such actions, then I’ll shut the company down.”
