When it comes to smartwatch designs, they are pretty standard and to a certain extent, almost boring. At the same time it is understandable since the idea is to blend the watch into your everyday fashion without standing out too much. However at MWC 2019, Nubia wants to turn that idea on its head.

The company has officially announced the Nubia Alpha, the company’s latest wearable. As you can see from the image, this is pretty much an entire display that can wrap around your wrist, making it the first of its kind we’ve seen. We have seen patents in the past that have floated the idea of an all-display wearable, but Nubia could have very well beaten everyone to the punch.

The Alpha will feature a 4-inch 960×192 OLED display and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset. It will also come with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and a 500mAh battery. The Alpha will also feature the usual trappings one might expect from a smartwatch, such as fitness and health tracking, and there will also be an eSIM 4G variant of the device which means that you will be able to use it independently of your smartphone.

In theory the use of the eSIM also means that you should be able to use it to make and receive phone calls on the device. Nubia has priced the device starting at €449 for the Bluetooth model, and €549 for the eSIM variant, and €649 for the 18-karat gold eSIM model if you decide you need a little bling in your life.
