Google Maps is useful when it comes to finding nearby bars, restaurants, and interesting places. Now it seems that users will soon be able to add public events that are happening in the area. According to a report from Android Police, it seems that Google has started to allow users to create public events.
This feature isn’t available to all users yet and it has been speculated that it could be limited to certain Local Guides of a specific level and location. However Google notes that this feature might not be available in some regions, so your mileage may vary when it comes to utilizing this feature.
However we imagine that Google should eventually start to roll out the feature to all users at a later date, but for now it is limited. It is a good idea and a good feature to have to let users know what kind of public events that are happening in the area, such as a blood drive, a charity event, and so on.
That being said, it seems that this feature is still very much in testing because according to Android Police, the adding of the public event was not instant. Instead they had to wait for an hour before it showed up, and there were also some issues when it came to adding photos. We’re not sure if this delay has to do with Google wanting to verify the information first, or if it could simply be server lag, but hopefully they’ll work those kinks out ahead of the full rollout.
