With Google Photos and Google Drive being Google products, it’s not surprising that they kind of tie-in with each other. For example, you can view your Google Photos through Drive via the app, and if you did enjoy the fact that they synced with each other, you might be in for some bad news.

According to a report from Android Police, they did an APK teardown of the Google Drive app in which they found strings that indicated that syncing folders between Google Photos and Drive will be coming to an end, and that this will be coming into effect this coming July. Google has yet to make any kind of official announcement, but if accurate, we imagine that it should be coming soon.

That being said, we should note that this only stops the syncing between Photos and Drive. This by no means affects photos or videos saved to your Photos account. According to the string found in the teardown, “Your Google Photos folder is no longer syncing with Google Photos. Your photos are all safe in Google Photos.”

Basically, this means that in order to access Photos, you’ll need to do so through the Photos app instead of through Drive. If you’ve always been using Photos to begin with, then this shouldn’t really change anything for you.
