If gaming smartphones are your thing, then you might want to mark down the 23rd of July on your calendars. This is because according to a report from DigiTimes, the publication is claiming that ASUS is expected to make an announcement next month where the ASUS ROG Phone 2 will be announced.

This is the successor to the ASUS ROG Phone that was launched last year. Given how ASUS ROG computers are known in gaming circles, it’s not surprising that they would apply that branding to their smartphones as well. In terms of specs, we’re not sure what we can expect apart from the high chance that it could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset.

We have heard that the phone could be sporting a 90Hz display, putting it on par with handsets like the OnePlus 7 Pro. Unfortunately, even until today, it seems that Razer is pretty much the only handset maker who has introduced a 120Hz display to their smartphones (Apple uses a 120Hz display but only for their iPad Pros).

The report goes on to claim the ASUS will be launching this device in partnership with Tencent. Presumably, this will result in games from Tencent and its subsidiaries being developed specifically or optimized for the handset. Take it with a grain of salt, but check back with us next month if you’d like the details.
