4K TVs have yet to become as ubiquitous as Full HD TVs, and we expect that it might still be a while before it does, but it looks like some companies are already planning for 8K to become the next big thing, such as LG. The company has recently announced that they will be accepting pre-orders for the world’s first commercially-available 8K TV.

This TV isn’t exactly new as it was announced back in August 2018, but it seems that it has taken LG quite a while before they got it ready for consumers. According to the company, aside from the insanely-high resolution, one of the features of the TV is that it uses AI to help it produce the best image possible.

LG says, “The superior performance of LG’s 8K OLED panel is enhanced by the company’s second- generation α (Alpha) 9 Gen 2 8K intelligent processor. The processor elevates picture and sound quality with deep learning technology and access to an extensive database of visual information. This allows the chip to optimize content by recognizing source quality and implementing the best algorithm guaranteeing stunningly real images.”

Pre-orders have already begun in South Korea where the TV is expected to cost $42,000, but LG is offering a 20% discount off the RRP for those who pre-order it. It is by no means cheap even after a 20% discount, but if you want to futureproof yourself for the years ahead, it could be worth taking a look at.
