You would think that a game as old and as storied as Magic: the Gathering would have a ton of TV shows and movies made based around the universe that it created, but oddly enough, that has never happened. There were initial plans for a film, but unfortunately, that did not quite take off.

The card game, which launched back in 1993, is considered to be one of the most complex games on earth, and if you’ve ever wondered what it could look like on the big screen, you’re in luck. Variety has reported that the directors behind Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers, will be working with Netflix to bring a Magic: the Gathering animated series to its platform.

According to the Russos, “We have been huge fans and players of Magic: The Gathering for as long as it has been around, so being able to help bring these stories to life through animation is a true passion project for us.” The brothers had famously managed to tackle the pretty complex storylines of the Avengers and somehow bring them all together in two cohesive movies, so they do seem like the perfect duo to take on Magic: the Gathering.

The series is expected to launch in 2020, but it is unclear as to which story is could be based on. The game has released multiple expansions and storylines over the decades of its existence, so there will be plenty of source material to pull from.
