In the middle of May, it was reported that Robert Pattinson was close to securing a deal to become the new Batman. This followed reports of Ben Affleck who announced that he would be stepping down from the role, leaving many to wonder who could possibly take up the role as the Caped Crusader.

Now according to a report from Variety, it seems that Pattinson has officially signed a deal with Warner Bros. where he will now be playing as Batman in the upcoming standalone Batman film by Matt Reeves. It has been reported that the movie has been in the works for a while now, but now it seems that it won’t be a one-off movie and that it will actually be a trilogy of Batman movies.

The last Batman trilogy we were treated to was Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight which starred Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Judging by some of the comments, some have reacted negatively to Pattinson’s casting as Batman. This is because Pattinson is still very much known for his role in the Twilight movies, which despite their financial success was panned by many in terms of its story.

Pattinson has since gone on to star in more indie movies where he has taken on more serious and grittier roles, which some feel has transformed him into an actor who could pull off being Batman. Either way, we’ll have to wait and see how this one plays out, but don’t hold your breath just yet as the first movie is expected to only arrive in 2021.
