Dubbed Steam Lab, these are experimental features that Valve is testing. Whether or not these features make its way into the main version of Steam remains to be seen and largely depends on user feedback, but some of them sound pretty interesting, such as the “Interactive Recommender”.
According to Valve, “This experiment looks at how much you’ve played each game in your Steam library, and uses the magic of machine learning to recommend games you might like. Filter your results by picking games that are popular or niche, and drill down by release date and tags.”
What makes this feature different from other recommendation systems is that it isn’t based on genre, but rather it is based on user patterns, so you might get recommendations once in a while that might be different from the games you usually play. If you’re interested in checking it out and the other Steam Lab features, head on over to its website for the details.
