During the time of the Google Nexus phones, the goal was to offer users a vanilla/stock version of Android. However, with the Pixel phones, Google is starting to give users more reasons to buy their devices, such as by giving them exclusive apps and features. According to a recent discovery by XDA, it seems that the Pixel 4 could come with a new and upgraded Recorder app.

Now, audio recording apps are pretty simple and straightforward and just record audio. However, with the Pixel 4, XDA has discovered that the Recorder app will be given an upgrade where it will also be able to transcribe audio recordings into text. This means that you could use your Pixel 4 smartphone to record a conversation and later transcribe it into text if you’d prefer to print it out or read it.

Based on the testing done by XDA’s Mishaal Rahman, the transcription feature is not 100% accurate, but he found that it does a good enough job of getting most of it down. It was also found that users will be able to search for particular words in an audio recording, which is actually a pretty cool feature.

We imagine that over time, the transcription feature will be improved upon to be more accurate. Also, we’re not sure if the upgraded Recorder app will be available for all Pixel phones or if it will be a Pixel 4 exclusive, so check back with us in the next couple of weeks for updates.
