Due to the coronavirus outbreak, companies such as LG, NVIDIA, Sony, Amazon, ZTE, TCL, and others have announced that they will be passing on the event or skipping their press conferences due to health concerns. These are by no means small companies which means that there will be less announcements at the event.

In fact, the number of companies pulling out from the event has reportedly sent GSMA (the organizer of the event) into crisis mode where according to a report from Spanish publication, La Vanguardia, the organization will be holding an internal meeting this Friday to determine the fate of the event, and whether or not to proceed with it.

GSMA has declined to comment on the report, but it makes sense. After all, if some of the major players in the industry plan on sitting out the event, it’s not going to be much of an event. We imagine that there might be some who might be annoyed especially since the event is only in a couple of weeks, which means that some might have already booked their flights and hotels that might not be refundable.

Either way, take it with a grain of salt for now, but hopefully we’ll have an answer by the end of the week!
