It has been rumored for a while that Apple is working on a tracking accessory called the AirTags. This is Apple’s answer to Tile’s Bluetooth trackers, except that it will be using UWB that will supposedly offer up more precise tracking compared to regular Bluetooth. It has yet to be announced, but we could be getting close.

This is thanks to a video posted on YouTube by leakster Jon Prosser who has had an incredible track record to date with regards to Apple-related leaks and rumors. The video in question shows off the animation that users can expect when pairing the device with their iPhone, and it also “confirms” the design.

From what we can tell, and assuming this is accurate, the design of the AirTags looks a lot like a watch battery. It sports a silver back with the Apple logo and the “AirTags” name, while the front features a white cover, which presumably is made of plastic. According to Prosser, the AirTags has apparently been ready to ship for a while now, but Apple has held back due to the pandemic and has been looking for a right time to release it.

He speculates that it might be released in spring, which is when Apple typically makes their first announcements of the year, like the rumored iPad Pro with a mini LED display, so perhaps we’ll have the official details in the next few months.
